During the coming 5 years, Wetlands International will work closely with Red Cross, Cordaid, Red Cross Climate Centre and CARE to implement a range of projects in Asia, Latin America and Africa to increase people's resilience against (climate related) disasters via ecosystem restoration and management. En los últimos años el Delta del Paraná se ha vuelto centro de atención por la extracción de los recursos naturales, la sustitución de la vegetación nativa, las intensas sequías y los fuegos y la modificación de los patrones de drenaje debido a la ganadería a gran escala y la agricultura. La construcción de endicamientos y otras obras de infraestructura por medianas a grandes empresas está afectando negativamente a los humedales, las comunidades locales y a las pequeñas unidades productivas.

El conjunto de humedales que existen en la cuenca baja del río Paz (manglares, esteros, ríos y mar); proveen de servicios ecosistémicos fundamentales para la sostenibilidad de los medios de vida de las comunidades locales y su bienestar. Más del 70% de la población de la zona depende de forma directa de los servicios ecosistémicos que prestan, especialmente de la pesca, la recolección de crustáceos y moluscos, del agua para el consumo humano y la producción y de la madera o la leña.

This UNEP publication features many case examples of the work of Wetlands International. Budidaya tambak ramah lingkungan ramai didengungkan akibat kerusakan lingkungan pesisir (mangrove) yang parah, salah satunya akibat kegiatan pembukaan lahan untuk tambak. Sehingga konsep budidaya tambak ramah lingkungan lebih sering disebut sebagai budidaya tambak yang melestarikan mangrove sebagai jalur hijau atau penanaman mangrove di tambak (silvofishery).
