Follow the Bird Project

We are very pleased to inform you that the Follow the Bird Website is now live here. The project involves the satellite tracking of Purple Herons that breed in the Netherlands and migrate to West Africa. Four birds moved northwards from Africa, then in France and are now back in the Netherlands. With a regular update we will inform you with news, exciting behavior and conservation issues. The website offers opportunities for your involvement.

The movements of these marked birds have already helped identify new wetlands of international importance for the species, new threats along their migration routes, conservation and management issues at these wetlands and livelihood issues for the people living at these important wetlands.

The website is hosted by Wetlands International and produced under the Shell-Wetlands International partnership. The project is implemented cooperatively with Vogelbescherming Nederland (Birdlife) and Bureau Waardenburg.
