This group promotes the conservation of Pelecanidae through sound scientific research.
In south eastern Europe the group had an important impact for the conservation of pelicans by reducing quite well shooting of these birds, mortality due to electric power lines and by enhancing reproduction by building artificial nest platforms or rafts.
Group’s activities
In the former USSR, since the political changes, we are
not able to find anybody who wishes to work for the
Pelican Group due to the lack of interest in these birds or
due to the fact that people who might be interested have
requested for monetary support to undertake such work.
In Asia, we face the same problem, some people are
willing to do something, but they cannot find funds.
In Africa, it is now more difficult today to find people, just
for monitoring colonies compared to 10–20 years back!
