Work With Us

Become a Partner

Together we work to achieve shared goals and objectives in the field of conservation and wise use of wetlands. We have many forms of partnerships including global, institutional, project or programme. Our partners come from all sectors. For a full overview, see our partnerships.

Featured Partnerships:
With CARE Netherlands, Cordaid, and the Red Cross/ Red Crescent Climate Centre, Wetlands International is helping to strengthen the resilience of more than 600,000 people by bringing ecosystem expertise into disaster risk reduction across nine countries.

Become an Associate Expert

Our Associate Experts bring specific knowledge and skills to our work in the field. They do this on a voluntary or freelance basis. We formalise our joint commitment with each Associate Expert through a Memorandum of Cooperation and a tailor-made Agreement. Meet our Associate Experts!

If you are interested in becoming an Associate Expert please contact Bianca.Bouwman@wetlands.org.

Join a Specialist Group

Specialist Groups are formed from volunteers who share a common interest. Specialist Groups have a technical advisory role to our organisation and may also join forces in terms of advocacy on key issues. Specialist Groups have Coordinators who act as the focal point for the Group and coordinate information exchange between the members of the Group and with Wetlands International. See our current Specialist Groups.

Volunteer

Volunteers are an indispensable asset to the organisation. The actual tasks of a volunteer vary greatly and are additional to the regular Wetlands International work. Wetlands International strives to make volunteer work a valuable learning experience!

Featured Volunteer:
Ankje Frouws, graduate from Arts Academy, collected our track record of the past 30 years on safeguarding and restoring mangroves and developed it into an attractive visual, available here.

Internship

We strive to give interns from various educational institutions the opportunity to make working for Wetlands International a valuable learning experience! The purpose of the internship can be either gaining work experience or a graduate assignment. A mentor is assigned to assure the learning experience and the desired goals of the internship are maximized.

Featured Intern:
Stefan Verschure, from Utrecht University, conducted a 4-month study into tidal dynamics in a coastal village in Central Java, Indonesia. His presence, discussions and recommendation to build with nature, were important for the local community and the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

“During my internship at Wetlands International I looked into the problematic expansion of pulp wood plantations on peatlands and helped develop a strategy on this for which I engaged with other NGOs, the industry and donors to support us. I really enjoyed the challenge!”  – Bas Tinhout, MSc Forest and Nature Conservation, Wageningen University
