More than 1300 scientists worked for five years to build our knowledge about the link between ecosystems and human well-being. The findings confirm that ecosystems are degrading rapidly, with wetlands deteriorating faster than any other ecosystem type. The report highlights the significance for human well-being due to the loss of ecosystem services. People depend directly on healthy wetland ecosystems for drinking water, food and fibre and they provide additional ecosystem services such as reducing the impacts of floods and droughts.
