13-Feb-2008

Wetlands International on behalf of the WPRP African Training Board announces the call for applications for the 2008 training courses focusing on a modular system of training. These training courses are part of a series of training courses being supported by the WPRP. The main modules were developed in collaboration with various partners such as Wageningen International, UNESCO-IHE, Oxfam America, Kenya Wildlife Service Institute, Foundation for Sustainable Development, Ghana Environmental Protection Agency, Uganda Wetlands Inspection Division and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre through a series of stakeholder consultations and have further undergone processes to ensure their relevance to local contexts.

Scheduled training / courses
Four training courses are being offered in 2008 through designated training centre partners, namely the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (for the Anglophone training) and the Centre de Forets in Thies, Senegal (For the Francophone training). Individuals interested in participating in these courses are requested to carefully select the training course of their choice out of the four offered this year. However, in terms of response to the applications, priority will be given to the 3rd Anglophone Training course in April and the 2nd Francophone training course in late March 2008.

These trainings will be conducted by the selected Trainers from the Anglophone and Francophone Training of Trainer courses held in December 2006 and March 2007 in Naivasha, Kenya and Thies, Senegal respectively. The Trainers have been engaged in adapting the modules to local contexts and have developed a curriculum specific to the region, which is used for the delivery of the training course.

 Training Objective

Furthermore participants will be requested to bring relevant information materials of any wetland in their respective countries where there is a large dependence on for livelihood.

Please note - national trainings will be held in 2008 in the following countries, Senegal, Uganda, Mali/Niger, Benin, Malawi /Zambia while another two national trainings will be held in conjunction with the Nile Basin Initiative in Sudan and Ethiopia.
