On 10 October 2003 a formal dedication ceremony was held of the Kapar Ash Ponds Station to the East Asian-Australasian Shorebird Site Network, in recognition of its international importance to shorebirds. The Network covers a large area from Russia and Alaska through East and South East Asia to Australia and New Zealand. The Kapar Ash Ponds is the first Network Site in Malaysia and the 33rd site on the network.
