We are pleased to announce that under the Netherlands DGIS Junior Expert Programme, Pieter Terpstra has recently joined the Wetlands International West Africa Team as the West Africa Programme Development Officer. Pieter's background is in Marine Ecology (University of Groningen and University of Amsterdam) and Financial Management (Nyenrode University, the Netherlands). During his three year contract Pieter's responsibilities will include: - Development of a Wetlands programme development plan for West Africa - Enhancing awareness on wise use and conservation of wetlands, including relevant conventions (including Ramsar) and international agreements (e.g. AEWA) - Proposal and project development - Providing technical support to project managers and monitor project implementation - Strengthening the management and co-ordination of the African Waterbird Census - Fundraising for the above projects and co-ordinating activities with supervising agencies, collaborating agencies and partners in the region
