New publication: State of the World’s Waterbirds 2010

20-Oct-2010

Nagoya, Japan (CBD) - Wetlands International will present the State of the World’s Waterbirds 2010 on Thursday 21 October at the Convention on Biological Diversity in Japan. Through this publication, the organisation will show how different groups of waterbird populations are doing in different parts of our world.

The publication also highlights why some populations are in continuing decline while others are recovering. The overview is based on survey work coordinated for over 40 years in over 100 countries under the International Waterbird Census and has been combined with data from many other sources.

The State of the World’s Waterbirds 2010 summarises what is known about this spectacular and crucial element of the world’s biodiversity, about the threats it is facing and about effective responses to those threats. The state of this group of species also gives some indication of the health of the world’s lakes, rivers, marshes estuaries and shallow sea areas.
