2010 Annual Review shows healthy organisation

The Annual Review 2010 is out now! Despite the global economic crisis, our Annual Review 2010 shows a healthy and growing organisation. Due to our efforts together with many partners, we achieved a lot in terms of wetland restoration and conservation worldwide.
The global income of Wetlands International rose from 10.3 million to almost 11.9 million euro. Most of it was spend on work in developing countries; especially in Africa.
The Annual Review gives a clear picture on our achievements, resulting from a wide range of projects in different regions. To give some highlights: In West Africa and Asia we were instrumental in supporting local communities to undertake massive mangrove replanting and conservation. In Russia, we worked with oil companies on the relocation of planned oil rigs to locations with less impact on the (wetland) environment. We had success at the UN climate negotiations regarding the inclusion of accounting of wetland emissions in the new text for a new Kyoto Climate Protocol. Once the new Protocol is in place, this will give a huge incentive for wetland conservation. And in Amboseli, Kenya, we developed cooperation between competing local groups thus preventing conflicts over water, resulting in wetland conservation and more efficient use for small-scale farming.
