Wetlands International held 2 side events at COP14 in Poznan, on 6 December (Forest Day) and at 8 December.
Both events focused on the magnitude of peatland emissions, how to address these under UNFCCC policy mechanisms, and expressed the concerns and risks that a new post 2012 treaty will still not cover these huge emissions.
For both Annex I countries as developing countries, policy options were presented for addressing peatland emissions within current negotiations.
In addition Wetlands International provided insight in how in practice degraded peatlands can be restored, and payed special attention to recent peatland conservation and restoration work in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, by means of a short film.
