prepared for the 9th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, Kampala, Uganda

The CD presentation contains the following features:

* All of the available Ramsar Site Information Sheets (RIS), in full, provided by Contracting Parties to the Convention to the Ramsar Secretariat. * EXTRA - If you open the Acrobat Reader programme and browse this CD you can search on all RIS PDF files for any word or phrase - search files in the folder "Directory/RIS"

* All of the Directory entries of Ramsar Sites of International Importance, written by Wetlands International, using the official RIS

* Global, regional and country maps which enable rapid navigation to Directory and RIS entries for individual Ramsar Sites

* Global maps showing the distribution of Sites designated for each wetland type (including those considered under-represented) recognised by the Convention

* Introductory pages in the three official languages of the Convention: English, French and Spanish

* Comprehensive graphs and charts at global and regional level showing the application of the Criteria, growth of membership of the Convention, designated area and numbers of Sites

Technical requirements to run this CD:

The CD was prepared for PCs running Windows 98, NT, 2000 or XT, and was developed to run in all versions of Internet Explorer from version 4.0 onwards. It has also been tested in Netscape 6 and 7.

Adobe PDF Reader must be installed on the PC to enable viewing of the Ramsar Information Sheets. Alternatively, this is easily downloaded from the official Adobe website (via http://www.adobe.com and click on the "get Adobe Reader").

Some of the links relating to official information (texts of the Convention, definitions, etc.) that may be present on some pages, are external links to the Ramsar website. If your computer is not connected to the internet, an "error - page not available" message will appear in a new window. This is normal, simply close the window and proceed as before. These external links, and others which are included, are provided for convenience when the PC is connected to the internet. However, the CD will run satisfactorily without any internet connection.

How to start the CD:

To start the CD, simply place in the CD drive and wait for your internet viewer to start.

If the CD does not Autorun after a few seconds, then access the contents of the CD from "My Computer" and double click on the "default.htm" file, which should then load the start page.

Select the language of operation - English, French or Spanish by clicking on the large buttons. After selecting the "home" language, an introductory page opens with a blue left bar, containing the main controls. It is also possible to select the other languages through the buttons at the bottom of this blue bar.
