Wetlands International is supported by donors, members, groups of experts plus volunteers from the field. Together, they provide us with the means to work in achieving our mission of sustaining and restoring wetlands, their resources and biodiversity for future generations.
Donors
First of all, our donors provide us with the financial strength to implementing our projects in all continents of the world. Our donors vary from ministries and embassies to other non-governmental organisations and private foundations. Donations can be made in support of different activities or through the Global Peatland Fund. For more information on how to become a donor contact Frank van der Valk, Chief Operations Officer (COO), or visit the donor page and Global Peatland Fund page.
Members
Governments as well as (research and other) institutes and NGOs can become a member of Wetlands International. Members have direct influence on the strategy of our organisation through the members meetings held every three years. Moreover, members are kept constantly updated on our activities.
About 35 governments and 12 NGOs are already members of Wetlands International. Read more on what benefit membership of Wetlands International has for your organisation and how to become a member on our membership pages or contact Bertine Niesten, Membership Officer.
Specialist Groups & Associate Experts
Specialist Groups are networks of expert scientists who provide information and advice in support of Wetlands International's programmes and projects. In total, our Specialist Group network involves over 2,000 people. Read more on Specialist Groups or contact Nicolas Tubbs, Specialist Groups Coordinator.
Volunteers
Around 15.000 volunteers help us by providing data through monitoring and counting of millions of waterbirds. Read more on the International Waterbird Census. Furthermore, on various topics volunteers are helping out our organisation and interns are doing research. Read more on staff & jobs or contact Andrew Drenth, Human Resources Manager.
