Migratory waterbirds are culturally and economically important, but vulnerable to habitat loss, overexploitation and other pressures. Countries along their flyways have a shared responsibility for sustainable management of their populations. Through the African-Eurasian Waterbird Monitoring Partnership, Wetlands International and partners support science-based decision-making to help countries meet their AEWA commitments to waterbird conservation.

Working together on disasters, climate, ecosystems

During the coming 5 years, Wetlands International will work closely with Red Cross, Cordaid, Red Cross Climate Centre and CARE to implement a range of projects in Asia, Latin America and Africa to increase people's resilience against (climate related) disasters via ecosystem restoration and management. Together they have formed the “Partners for Resilience” (PfR).

El manejo integral para la Conservación y el Uso Sustentable del Delta del Paraná: Estado actual y desafíos a enfrentar

El aumento en el uso de los recursos naturales del Delta del Paraná, la sustitución de la vegetación nativa y la modificación de los patrones de drenaje, sumados a la ocurrencia de intensas sequías e incendios, resultaron en impactos que afectan a los humedales de la región, su biodiversidad y los medios de vida asociados. En este contexto, la creación del “Plan Integral Estratégico para la Conservación y Uso Sostenible del Delta del Paraná” (PIECAS) es una oportunidad para el cambio, y para el trabajo con distintos sectores y variadas disciplinas, con una meta común: facilitar la resolución de los problemas del Delta del Paraná y de su gente, aprovechando de manera sustentable los servicios ambientales que permitan la preservación de la naturaleza de este vasto humedal.

Jaltantra - Floodplains for livelihoods and biodiversity in North Bihar

This video tells the story how biodiversity, livelihoods and wetland management are interlinked in the North Bihar, India. Endikements, roads and other development do not take water management into account and damage this fragile balance. Tana Delta, Kenya - Competition for Land and Water

The Tana Delta is the largest and wetland ecosystem in Kenya and is found on the Kenyan Coast (East). The Tana river is the largest and longest river in Kenya ( nearly 1,014 km long ). The Delta is about 130,000ha and suppors 100,000 people, consisting mostly of farmers, pastoralist & fishermen. However, the river volume has fallen by 20% in 10 years.
