Стратегия сохранения водно-болотных угодий России.

With its traditional sectoral economic and scientific attitudes regarding mires, Russia needs an integrated approach to, and broad inter-sectoral collaboration in, planning mire conservation and wise use. An important step towards in this direction was made through the adoption of the inter-sectoral framework document, “Action Plan for Peatland Conservation and Wise Use in Russia.” This document was developed as part of the implementation of decisions of the Ramsar Convention at the national level regarding the wise use of peatlands (Resolution VIII.17). To fulfill some of the major activity directions, which were adopted, a long-term project on peatland conservation was launched within the framework of the Wetlands International – Russia Programme.

Methodology for creating visitor centres in nature reserves, national parks and other nature areas: designers work experience.

The subject of this publication is the authors' experiences with developing the concepts of visitor centres and eco-trails in protected nature areas of different types. It is targeted at a wide audience, including those that have the intention of establishing a visitor centre or a wetland centre, plan to renovate an old natural history museum, design a network of walking trails, a child-friendly exhibit or a play area. This publication contains the detailed description of the steps they will go through to plan the concept development process, the practical examples and tips to avoid common mistakes. Restoring Peatlands in Russia

Millions of hectares of drained and abandoned peatlands in European Russia are highly vulnerable to fires, such as those that covered Moscow in smoke during the extremely dry summer of 2010. Rewetting degraded peatlands, especially abandoned peat mining sites, and establishing a sustainable usage will prevent fires and their negative impacts on climate and biodiversity.

Annual IWC Count Totals: African-Eurasian Waterbird Census

This annual report summarises the totals per country per species of all waterbirds counted under the International Waterbird Census in the African-Eurasian region. The 2012 report includes counts from 72 countries between 2009 - 2012. The data in this report has been collected by thousands of individuals and collated by National Coordinators, whose names and organisations are listed in the file "Contributors".
