Moratorium on deforestation for palm oil production

This is a call of global company Unilever for a moratorium on deforestation for palm oil. Wetlands International, as a member of the Round Table of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), supports this call.

Description:

With the call, companies and NGOs dealing with palm oil urge companies to respect this moratorium. The call will also be translated into a resolution for the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (meeting in November 2008).

The call of Unilever also excludes areas were palm oil production will lead to irreversable loss of the soil carbon (like peatlands).

See the letter of Unilever (plus Annexes) and the response of Wetlands International.
