This programme aimed to improve policies so that they include the role of wetlands for poverty reduction; especially in developing countries. We trained people, supported demonstration field work in developing countries, provide seed funds for proposals and partnerships, created new partnerships with NGOs working on policy change and in the development sector, and advocated our message among decision makers, NGOs and foundations at national and international levels.

This programme was carried out in many Asian, African and South American countries in close cooperation with our Africa, Mali, Latin America, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand offices.
In fact it was a world wide partnership of organisations that promotes the integration of sustainable wetland management into poverty reduction strategies. The aim is to show the importance of wetlands in fighting poverty. We have activities on global and national policy change, building human capacity and developing and testing best practices in the field.
