Maintaining Wetlands and Livelihoods in the Paraná Delta, Argentina (La Plata basin)

This project aims to fight the current degradation of the Parana Delta wetlands by influencing the “Strategic Integral Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Parana Delta” (PIECAS) and other policy processes, contributing to the implementation of an Integrated Management of Wetland Resources approach, as a basis for food and water security; and for new livelihood strategies that will support sustainable economic development.

Ecotourism in Sedili Kechil

This project aims to stimulate ecotourism in Sedili Kechil in Johor province of Malaysia. It provides many activities to tourists who come to the area. This strengthens the livelihoods of the local community of Sedili, which are connected to the wetlands. there are also other activities for the local population. E.g. fishing is an active part of their daily lives. Wetlands are also important, as leaves and plant extract from the trees are used as local resources in infrastructural, medicinal and cultural aspects of their lives.

Mediterranean Wetlands for Water and People

Building civil society's capacities to dialogue with governments about improved wetland management represents the potential value added of this project. This project will promote exchange of experiences between Mediterranean countries on the issues of participatory and integrated water management and environmental security.

Conservation du Lamantin ouest africain (Trichechus Senegalensis)

Entre 2004 et 2007,Wetlands International Afrique s’est intéressée au statut et valeur de cette espèce dans son aire de répartition. Cela a abouti, dans la première phase à la mise en place d’une stratégie régionale de conservation du lamantin. De 2008 à 2011, l’objectif visé est essentiellement de conserver le Lamantin ouest africain et ses habitats, en se basant sur des données scientifiques les plus fiables, et en tenant compte de l’environnement, des caractères socioéconomiques et culturels de son aire de répartition.

Management Planning for Wular Lake, Kashmir

This project focuses on Wular Lake, one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia. Rapid degradation of Wular Lake has an enormous impact on community health and livelihoods. This prompted the state government to contract Wetlands International and her partners (WISA) to develop an integrated management plan for restoration of the lake and its catchment.

Vulnerability mapping to incursion by highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1

WISA (Wetlands International South Asia) and UNICEF-India worked on a two month desk study to review and map available information in relationship to water bird concentrations and poultry productions, with an objective of prioritizing regions for Avian Influenza awareness raising activities under current programes of UNICEF and Ministry of Agriculture.

Economic Valuation of Chilika Lake, Orissa

The project aimed at valuing the ecosystem services of Chilika Lake to assess their contribution to local and regional economy; assess impacts of developmental activities on these services. Proposed are a review of current management plans, alternate strategies to ensure sustained provisioning for overall livelihood security of the wetland dependant communities.
