“My contribution to the IWC began in November 2016. I took over from Bernard Deceuninck who coordinated the French IWC Network for about 20 years at the LPO. LPO is the French Partner of Birdlife International, the largest association involved in nature protection in France.
My job consists firstly in the mobilisation and coordination of the national network of waterbird counts. This network is composed of about 50 local coordinators that manage about 530 “functional” wetland sites and more than 1500 contributors from nearly 200 organisations and associations.
I am in charge of gathering data collected by all French contributors during the IWC and managing the national database. I produce the annual synthesis on the Anatidae and coots population evolution and trends. I also publish newsletters and I contribute to schemes based on waterbird indicators. For instance, in 2017 for the first time, LPO publishes a global synthesis covering not only Anatidae and coots, but also waders, grebes, Ardeidae and divers counted during the IWC.”
