About us

At Wetlands International, we are dedicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands so that these unique habitats are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide. We work to conserve and restore diverse wetland systems in all parts of the world, ranging from coastal wetlands such as mudflats and mangroves to freshwater systems all the way up to the mountains, including peatlands, marshes, rivers and floodplains. To make a global difference and ensure sustainable wetland management across land and seascapes, we inspire and mobilise society to act and influence levers of change.

Our work on coasts and deltas comprises a rapidly growing portfolio of worldwide projects and programmes. This includes integrated coastal zone management programmes, habitat and species conservation, dedicated restoration initiatives, and a range of sector and commodity-driven programmes focused on coastal engineering and aquaculture, among others. Through these initiatives, we aim to enhance the roles that coastal wetlands play to support biodiversity, ensure food and water security and reduce climate risks.

Our approach is highly collaborative, done through strategic public and private partnerships and cutting-edge networks, such as the Building with Nature consortium and the Global Mangrove Alliance.

Your role

In your role as a Senior Technical Officer – Coasts and Deltas (Project management), you will be responsible for developing, leading and managing a portfolio of programmes and projects in different parts of the world. A facilitative leader, you will closely work with project teams across our network of offices, providing programme management guidance and technical expertise. Building on your programme and project management experience, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our ways of working. This includes developing relevant knowledge, tools and team capacity to enhance our efficiency and ability to generate impact on the ground. Although we ask for 10 years or more relevant experience, exceptional candidates with less could also be considered.

Many of our programmes have reached an upscaling phase, shifting our impact from thousands to hundreds of thousands of hectares and from single habitat to fully integrated initiatives. As you join the team, you will take over the management of some of these programmes and have the opportunity to play a critical role in structuring this acceleration of our work, working closely with our network and partners.

Your role will also include external representation and donor stewardship, focusing on developing and cultivating relationships and opportunities to further the development of our programmes in alignment with our 2020-2030 Strategic Intent.

Profile

You are proactive and energetic, have an excellent understanding of international collaboration on wetlands conservation and sustainable development. You have a good knowledge of coastal wetland science and related disciplines. You have proven skills and experience in managing large and complex projects and partnerships to deliver impact and change on the ground while creating the conditions to catalyse change at scale. You have experience working across different sectors and cultures and have the language skills to enable smooth collaboration. Managing relationships sensitively and knowing how to support, coach and manoeuvre in often complex working environments will be part and parcel of how you work.

You naturally link strategic vision and implementation on the ground and inspire others to think along. You believe in the power of teamwork, and invest in the development of your team and team trust as a means maximising efficiency and impact on the ground.
