About us
At Wetlands International, we are dedicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands so that these unique habitats are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide. We work to conserve and restore diverse wetland systems in all parts of the world, ranging from coastal wetlands such as mudflats and mangroves to freshwater systems all the way up to the mountains, including peatlands, marshes, rivers and floodplains. To make a global difference and ensure sustainable wetland management across land and seascapes, we inspire and mobilise society to act and influence levers of change.
Healthy wetlands store vast amounts of carbon in their soils and biomass, but they can become a huge source of emissions upon degradation. Their conservation and restoration requires unprecedented public and private finance. Our wetland carbon programme aims to unlock carbon finance for wetlands while ensuring socio-environmental integrity. Our portfolio of wetland carbon projects is rapidly growing and we seek to consolidate and expand, thus ensuring that we deliver positive impact at landscape scale for the very long term. The work is collaborative, done in and through strategic public and private partnerships, with cutting-edge networks and in close collaboration with local communities and actors.
Your role
As a Wetland Carbon Portfolio Manager, you will develop, implement and monitor an upscaling strategy and associated business development plan together with the relevant strategic leads (Programme Heads) aiming to consolidate and expand our project portfolio in time and space. This will involve shaping new and innovative partnerships and blended finance models and translating this into successful implementation in projects. You will oversee the performance of the wetland carbon project portfolio and will ensure quality and coherence across projects by ensuring compliance with standards and best practices. You will identify and mitigating risks and enable our team to seize opportunities.
As Wetland Carbon Portfolio Manager you will work closely with the Programme Head Wetland Carbon and other strategic programme leads; and you will coordinate our enthusiastic team of colleagues and experts that are active in the Wetland Carbon Portfolio.
Your Profile
The Wetland Carbon Portfolio Manager has solid portfolio management skills and experience, married with enthusiasm for and knowledge of innovative (carbon) finance in the context of nature conservation and restoration or sustainable development. For this role, relevant skills are planning and organization, resource stewardship, relationship building, communications, entrepreneurship and team leadership, combined with a flexible and problem solving attitude. You have knowledge of key issues, debates, trends and key global processes related to mobilising landscape scale projects and sustainable finance. You will have a forward-looking mindset to anticipate how events could impact our project portfolio. You navigate and adapt well in dynamic and changing environments and have a “learning by doing” attitude.
You will have a relevant educational background and at least 10 years of professional experience including 5 years in portfolio management.
