Supporting monitoring across flyways
Established in 2016, the Waterbird Fund is for everyone who shares our dedication to essential long-term waterbird monitoring activities and the conservation actions these support. The Fund is managed by Wetlands International, in collaboration with hundreds of organisations and individuals around the world. The Fund is endorsed by several multilateral environmental agreements and frameworks, including the Convention on Migratory Species, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the UNEP African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA), CAFF’s Arctic Migratory Bird Initiative and the East Asian –Australasian Flyway Partnership.
The Waterbird Fund is a mechanism that allows our supporters to contribute to vital monitoring work and special campaigns. The funds raised have supported International Waterbird Census counts, special species counts and surveys of critical sites. This helps fill in knowledge gaps so we can better support conservation efforts. It also helps support and build local networks of conservationists, a vital step towards ensuring the long-term sustainability of waterbird populations and wetlands.
