Since January 2012, Mali is facing a war waged by the Tuareg separatists and the Islamists who are occupying the northern part of the country.
One of the consequences of this war is the establishment of insecurity in the northern part of the Niger River inner delta. Despite this, the Dentaga forest restoration work is going on because the local community commitment and with the support of the “What If We Change” project and Wetlands International.
In this forest, I met the “What If We Change” project manager at Wetlands International Mali. He talks about the restoration work the communities are doing although difficult conditions. This Dentaga people also expressed their determination to continue the forest restoration and protection.
