Venue: Zoom

This webinar, organised by the Mangrove Breakthrough NDC Task Force, will introduce a suite of cutting-edge data platforms and research tools that can inform and enhance mangrove targets in NDCs. Featured platforms will include the Global Mangrove Watch, National Forest Inventories, national data collected from mangrove monitoring systems, including local level data collection, amongst other methods.

These tools provide policymakers, mangrove practitioners and investors with near real-time, spatially explicit data on mangrove extent, condition, location and value across the world, enabling users to better understand, monitor, and report on mangrove ecosystems. The webinar will also explore current data gaps related to mangrove conditions, threats and national reporting systems, and share opportunities to address these gaps.

The webinar will showcase practical applications of the data platforms in the context of NDC development and reporting, as well as highlight their potential alignment with national biodiversity strategies (NBSAPs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and other relevant frameworks. As such the session will help participants to identify the most appropriate tools for different policy, planning and investment purposes.

Speakers include:

  • Government representatives from Mexico and Panama
  • Lammert Hilarides, Wetlands International on the Global Mangrove Watch
  • Matthew Warren, FAO on Mangrove Monitoring for Climate Change Mitigation
  • Smithsonian Institution on the Coastal Carbon Atlas

Join us for the webinar on May 27, Tuesday, May 6th at 10 am EDT  |  5 pm EAT | 4 pm CEST.
