Stork, Ibis and Spoonbill Specialist Group

Aims

1. To work for the conservation of Storks, Ibises and Spoonbills (SIS), especially species of global conservation concern, but not excluding common species.

2. To facilitate exchange of scientific and conservation-related information on SIS species among members.

3. To facilitate co-operative efforts for SIS species among conservationists and researchers.

4. To provide support to research and conservation efforts on SIS species.

Structure

There are two Chairs, and 65 members. We are constantly working to expand memberships that includes scientists and conservationists working on this group of birds. The Chairs respond to inquiries, enable communications via email among members, update members of new scientific publications and significant popular-science reports, and support research and conservation efforts focused on SIS species. The members are a diverse group constituting retired and active scientists in Universities, non-profits, and government working on both in-situ and ex-situ aspects.

Membership

In the 1980s and 1990s, a network of 850–950 members was established. We are working continually to update this.
