We deeply regret to announce that our dear friend and colleague, Andres Kuresoo passed away at his home on 2nd September. Andres was a pivotal figure in waterbird and wetland conservation. He was the Estonian national coordinator of the International Waterbird Census for many years and also a Member Delegate of his country to Wetlands International.

As a researcher at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu,  Andres had a strong interest in waterbirds and his scientific results and  field experience were fundamental in developing national and international  action plans for a number of threatened species such as the Great Snipe,  the Steller’s Eider, the Bewick’s Swan and most recently the Long-tailed  Duck. It was always a great pleasure working with him and we will miss him greatly.
