Open letter to the Mediterranean Shipping Company from conservation organisations: Where is the compensation for pollution of the Wadden Sea?

On the night of 1 January 2019, the Swiss shipping company MSC lost 342 containers, spilling toxic substances and plastic debris across the beaches, dunes, salt marshes and tidal flats of the Wadden region and large parts of the North Sea coastal zone. Today they are still littered with the same rubbish, severely impacting life in marine waters. Wetlands International, as part of a group of concerned conservation organisations, has co-signed a letter to the CEO of MSC asking the company not just to pay for the pollution they caused, but to develop a more sustainable way of doing their business.
