The aim of this guidebook is to support the reduction of GHG emissions from managed peatlands and present guidance for responsible management practices that can maintain peatlands ecosystem services while sustaining and improving local livelihoods. The book also provides an overview of the present knowledge on peatlands, including their geographic distribution, ecological characteristics and socio-economic importance.

Wetlands International and FAO collaborate for climate-smart-land use under the ‘The Organic Soils and Peatlands Climate Change Mitigation Initiative’. Marcel Silvius from the Netherlands and Xiaohong Zhang from China have contributed to the publication on behalf of Wetlands International. More information on our work on peatlands.
