Healthy wetlands: an effective climate change response

The conservation and restoration of ecosystems, in particular wetlands, could be one of the most cost-effective strategies to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Wetlands can reduce the negative effects of sea level rise, extreme weather like heavy rainfall, increased temperatures, severe storms and related phenomena such as melting glaciers, prolonged droughts and increased floods. Today Wetlands International will present facts and its views on adaptation at the CBD in Bonn.

Green Coast Bio-rights Study Tour very successful
From 18-21 November 2007 a group of 12 key staff from Green Coast partners in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand & Malaysia visited Aceh to study the coastal rehabilitation projects and learn about how the ‘Bio-rights approach’ has been applied by Wetlands International in the post-tsunami context.

A new film by Wetlands International in which we explain and demonstrate how conservation and restoration of wetlands can be a cost-effective strategy for climate adaption.

Wetlands at Convention on Biological Diversity COP9 (CBD), Bonn, 19-30 May 2008
From 19-30 May 2008 the CBD COP9 will take place in Bonn. Wetlands International will raise attention for the role CBD can play related to the reducing the impacts of peatland loss on climate change, the role wetlands can play in climate adaptation and in sustainable biofuel production in relation to biodiversity.
