The AEWA Conservation Status Report summarises the latest available knowledge about the size and trends of migratory waterbird populations listed in Table 1 of the AEWA Action Plan. It provides the basis for updating Table 1 and, in turn, determines the conservation and management measures required from the Contracting Parties outlined in the AEWA Action Plan.

The AEWA Conservation Status Report builds strongly on the information collected through the International Waterbrid Census in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Editions of the report can be accessed from the AEWA website. Trends and estimates for populations are also available from the Waterbird Population Estimates website. A specific methodological note can be found here.
