Wetlands International joins EAZA’s Wetlands for Life Conservation Campaign (2026–2027)
Wetlands International is proud to announce its role as an official campaign partner of European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA)’s Wetlands for Life Conservation Campaign (2026–2027). Through this collaboration, we will work alongside the EAZA community to expand the reach, visibility and impact of wetland conservation across Europe and beyond.
The Wetlands for Life campaign brings together hundreds of zoos and aquariums and millions of visitors under a shared goal: to raise awareness of the vital importance of wetlands and mobilise action to protect, restore and create these essential ecosystems.
A shared mission for wetlands and people
Wetlands International is the only global not-for-profit organisation dedicated entirely to the conservation and restoration of wetlands. Through our network of offices across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, we work with partners ranging from local communities and civil society organisations to businesses and governments to safeguard wetlands for nature and for people.
From peatlands and marshes to mangroves and floodplains, wetlands sustain biodiversity, store carbon, reduce disaster risk and support livelihoods. Yet they are among the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. By joining forces with EAZA, we aim to accelerate public understanding and drive meaningful conservation outcomes.
What this partnership brings to the campaign
Together with EAZA, we will collaborate on coordinated communications and shared campaign moments, including:
- Expert facts, figures and insights on wetlands to strengthen campaign messaging and public understanding.
- Joint promotion across our platforms to reach wider and more diverse audiences across Europe and globally.
- Practical communication support for participating zoos and aquariums, including access to compelling imagery and adaptable content for key wetland-related days and events.
By combining EAZA’s collective public reach with Wetlands International’s global expertise and field experience, the Wetlands for Life campaign will help more people recognise wetlands as essential ecosystems — and inspire concrete action to protect, restore and create them.
Myfanwy Griffith, Executive Director of European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, said:
Inspiring action across Europe and beyond
Over the course of 2026–2027, Wetlands International and the EAZA community will spotlight the extraordinary value of wetlands — from urban marshes and river floodplains in Europe to globally significant wetland landscapes that regulate climate and sustain biodiversity.
Through coordinated storytelling, public engagement and science-based advocacy, the Wetlands for Life campaign will empower individuals, institutions and decision-makers to act. Together, we can ensure wetlands continue to sustain life — now and for generations to come.
