Ecological Mangrove Restoration in Kalimantan- a hope for Indonesia’s mangroves

Published on:

A new video from the Nature-based Solutions for Climate-Smart Livelihoods in Mangrove Landscapes (NASCLIM) project, run by Wetlands International and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) at the Kayan-Sembakung Delta to restore and protect mangroves in North Kalimantan and the Mahakam Delta in East Kalimantan.

For the restoration of mangroves, we are piloting the Ecological Mangrove Restoration approach, through which we restore disturbed conditions, such as natural tidal flows, to enable natural regrowth. Our aim is to inspire sustainable change in mangrove restoration in the wider project landscape and across Indonesia and beyond.

We are closely working with the provincial and national government of Indonesia to strengthen climate mitigation, coastal resilience and empower vulnerable communities, with a special focus on women. In this video you will learn more about the Ecological Mangrove Restoration approach and uptake by the Indonesian government.
